FATF stands for Financial Action Task Force. It is an intergovernmental organization established in 1989 with the objective of combating money laundering and terrorist financing. The organization consists of 38 member countries and two regional organizations. The FATF develops and promotes international standards for anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing, and assesses member countries’ compliance with these standards through a mutual evaluation process. The organization also identifies jurisdictions that have strategic deficiencies in their anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing regimes, and encourages them to take action to address these deficiencies. The FATF plays an important role in setting global standards and promoting effective implementation of measures to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.
