Highlight on the provision of clean note policy as provision by Nepal Rastra Bank.

The following instructions have been issued by NRB having exercised the powers conferred by Section 79 of the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2058, through the Directive 21, regarding the provisions of clean notes to be followed by the Class “A”, “B” and “C” licensed institutions.

  1. BFI receive notes in their institutions shall have to divide into 3 categories i.e. Eligible notes to be sent in circulation through ATM including other machines, Eligible notes to be sent in circulation after payment made by the counter, and ineligible to be sent in circulation.
  2. BFI shall have to use GREEN slip on the bundle of notes to be sent in circulation through ATM and others machines.
  3. BFI shall have to use WHITE slip on the bundle of notes to be sent in circulation after payment made by the counter.
  4. BFI shall have to use RED Slip on the bundle of notes that is ineligible to be sent in circulation.
  5. The name of the office branch, seal, name of the employee counting the notes, employee’s identification number, signature and date must be filled in the slip.
  6. Stitches shall not use on notes instead Rubber / plastic / paper band can be used as required. In addition, arrangements should be made not to write on the note and to protect it.
  7. Bank note that have been scratched, corroded, brunt, melted, and soaked, damaged in printing, numbers, pictures and securities features misunderstood or damaged or have picture of the former king should be classified as non-disposable notes, NRB has instructed that such notes cannot be sent in circulation. Ineligible notes for circulation will have to be deposited in NRB or Note Kosh of other BFI.
  8. Before making the payment or exchange, the notes to be sent in circulation will have to be virus free by following the certain procedures.
  9. Drawers to keep notes, furniture, vaults, materials to transfer notes should be clean.
