  An operating system is a set of programs that manage, controls, co-ordinates and               supervise the activities of computer hardware and software.

  An operating system manages computer resources and provides a common service          for computer program.

             In short, an operating system is system software that allows running computer for its various users.

Functions of operating system

             An operating system act as a bridge or medium between computer hardware and its users.

             An operating system provides common platform on which users can executes program in an efficient manner.

             An operating system uses password protection to user data and similar other technique.

             An operating system helps to improve computer performance or health by providing adequate information needed to troubleshoot problems.

             An operating system keeps track of time and resources used by various users in order to collect their information for future needs.

             Operating systems constantly monitors and supervise the system to detect and prevent possible errors.

             An operating system manages computer memory by keeping track of what software applications are open and where it has put them in RAM.

             An operating system decides in which processes the processor have access and time for it.

             An operating system manage device by keeping track of all device connected to the system

             An operating system manage file in where information is stored, user access setting, and status of every files and more.

 

A bank needs these services for their daily financial transactions, and all these services are ensured by the operating system. A computer must have one operating system in order to run program, and maintain computer health or performance
